And [recall] when Moses said to his people, "Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you take us in ridicule?" He said, "I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant." (2:67)

In this short reminder, I wanna share with you something from ayah no. 67 of surah al-Baqarah. And which Allah Azza Wajalla talks about the incident of the cow. Of course surah al-Baqarah is called the cow.

When Musa AS said to his nation, no doubt it is Allah that in fact commands you that you should slaughter a cow. The first response was "أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًا". That's what as this ayah said. "Did you take this for a joke? Are you kidding us? We wouldn't slaughter a cow. A murder just happenned. And God's response is wishes us to slaughter a cow? It sounds kind of ridiculous"

And I'm sharing this as my first reminder because Allah made it a point to mention what their reaction was to Allah's instruction. A Prophet is telling you on Allah's behalf, 'slaughter a cow'. Whether that makes logical sense to you or not, it's God's command. But your response is "are you kidding?". "أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًا?". "You take it as a joke?"

And you know what? This is mentioned because this is a timeless problem. So you gonna have people here are Muslims, who hear of the instruction that is clearly from Allah's Messenger.

"Are you kidding me?"
"Are you serious?"
That's gonna be their reaction.

This kind of reaction would make Musa AS extremely upsets.
Within the same ayah, "قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّـهِ".
He said "I seek Allah's refuge".

From what?
"أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ"
"That I shouldn't be from those who lose their emotions and control"
جَاهِل is actually the opposite of عَاقِل.
عَاقِل is someone who controls their emotion and جَاهِل is someone who loses them.

I want to remind you that this ayah isn't just a warning to those who make a mockery of Allah's commandments. On the other hand, it is also warning to those who deliver Allah's message, who try to do the work of a Prophet, who when they say something on behalf of Allah, that they should not lose their cool.

Because Musa AS immediately says "I seek refuge of Allah and I should not be from those who are جَاهِل. Who loses their cool".
In other word, this what really enrage him, and he doesn't want to lose his temper because he would not be able to do his job.

So you know, carrying the messages of Islam and giving advice for the sake of Allah requires a thick skin and you gonna have to deal with some people who says some really ridiculous thing. And you gonna have to say:

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّـهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

May Allah makes us of those:

(1) who never make fun of Allah's commandments
(2) who when they do giving advice to each other and he hears things that inappropriate and response are able to control the emotions and control the temper.
